I earned my bachelor’s degree in biology and chemistry from Northern Illinois University while working as a paramedic and, eventually, a paramedic instructor. I have always had an interest in the medical field, and realizing how much I enjoyed teaching, I taught the International Trauma Life Support course to doctors, nurses, and EMT’s, trained the trainer, and organized ITLS chapters throughout the world. I took time off from travel to raise two amazing boys and two English bulldogs while providing office support to my husband’s security business. A couple of family crises brought awareness of functional medicine and the impact of nutrition and health. A functional medicine practitioner helped solve crucial problems in a very short period of time. I was amazed at how finding and addressing the root cause of the problem eliminated the symptoms and returned my loved ones’ health. Wanting to learn more, I earned my master’s in human nutrition and functional medicine from the University of Western States. I chose UWS for my studies because it is the only accredited Master of Science degree in human nutrition and functional medicine. Inspired by course facilitators during my time at UWS, I also enthusiastically mentor current students as Course Facilitator.
